Problem deleting public folders in Exchange 5.5

I migrated from Microsoft Mail to Exchange 5.5. I have a problem deleting the old public folders that were moved. I have taken ownership with all rights, including deleting. I get the message "The item could not be deleted. It was either moved or already deleted, or access was denied." The messages are there because I can read them. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

How are you trying to delete them? Through outlook, exchange admin, or other.
