problem deleting calendar entries

I am having trouble deleting entries from my Lotus Notes (version 5 client on NT4) calendar - get the message "Function requires valid ADT argument".

After OKing the message, the entry will then appear in the calendar view with a line through it.
I can navigate to the Trash folder in my mailbox and delete the entries from here by emptying the trash, and it will then be removed from calendar view OK, so I have a workround, but is there any way of preventing this error message? And what does it mean?
