I need to make a standard CSV file out of a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is nothing but basic row-headers with values going down. Nothing unusual. I go to file - save as - CSV... it gives me a couple messages I click through, then... the file extension is changed to .csv, but nothing else changes!? It's still formatted exactly the same with no commas and values are still in separate columns. What am I doing wrong??
Thanks!

Try opening the .csv file with Notepad or another text editor. That should give you the commas, etc.

I believe the current versions of Excel automatically convert a csv, commaa delimited file to a standard worksheet without any help on the users part.

That works. I really need to keep it in Excel, though, not Notepad. I'll have to play with it.
Thanks!

Why do you wanted it formated as comma delimited within Excel?

I would think the only real way to do that would be to re-import the file into Excel, and choose no delimiters, or something other than comma, thus leaving all the fields for each record in the first cell.

Of course, you could code it to combine the data from each cell, with a comma between each, but that would take more time than the first opton.

Hi, Chopinfan

Change the extension on the file to .txt
When you open it, don't allow anything as a delimiter
Then you will see the same thing in Excel as you do in notepad, but everything will be text, all in one column.
