heres how the story goes....
today i bought an new hd i plugged it , formatted the new drive with particion magic and rebooted the pc. i wanted to copy some of the files i had on another one to it. so i right clicked on the items and started copying them to the new hd. at some point i realised that if the the hd's were connected with the same data cable the time i would have to wait for the operation to complete would b much less than now that were on two seperate ones. so i stopped the procedure and rearranged the 3 hd's and a dvd-rw that r connected to my pc so that the ones not containing windows(os) would b connected on the same data cable.
from that time my troubles begun.. when i managed to achieve the bios to errcognise em all i realised that : from the new hd which contained some copied data i received an error of this type by norton : " log file initialization error G: "
also the old hd ( that contains almost a years work and effort in the chambers of slsk ) was now showing the capacity of the new drive (which is bigger).
both of them files and folders show as sthg like this " -?{T?Ga.
-"
when i try to use any disk error checking windows utility to fix the prob . the application seems to take forever ( not not ressponding but it doesnt do the job )
also when i try to use the chkdsk command in command promt i get an error that it can perform such actions on RAW drives.
both of the hd's have fat32 system
let me explain how the situation has changed over the last few hours
Now i have been able to reach this point: formatted the new drive again and now it seems to b working fine even tho it had the same problems with the old one.
about the old drive which interests me more which i am not willing to f...... (the f word ) it , it doesnt seem to b recognised it as a Raw drive but as a fat32 one BUT it seems that something is wrong with its fat system cause its capacity shows to b 120 (which is also the capacity of the new 1) instead of 80gb that is the actual drive and the errors stated when u try to modify something in it r #2004 ( invalid cluster was found in a directory entry) & #501 (cross linked files were found)
also the problem is that with unkown characters as filenames & folders & of size thats fictionative ( actually its a fuckin mess nothing to do with the folders the drive had before nor the number or anything ) i cant copy them to the new drive and obtain the data back.
i DID switch to the original settings as far as the data cable connection like the time i firts formatted the new drive but that didnt help either
i also connected the hd in trouble now to another pc (as master cause i cant seem to b able to start it up if the hd containing windows isnt slave) but it situation was the same... 120gb instead of 80 and messed up file system
nothing of these has worked though
