I'm trying to get my Macbook to talk to my Windows PC.
I can mount shares from the Windows machine on the Mac but after a seemingly random period the share disconnects.
I then have difficulty remounting it and receive error-36 messages.

I've checked the Apple knowledgebase and not found a solution. Although similar issues are mentioned they aren't the one I am having. I've not found anything of much help via Google either.

has anyone else had this problem?
The Vista install is pretty fresh, more or less 'out of the box'.

Hey Foamcow,

i've seen this type of thing happen with Macs when struggling with Windows Kerberos authentication. On occasion, the windows operating system will force Kerberos ticketing as opposed to allowing "fallback" to NTLM v2 authentication. I don't have a Vista machine in front of me, but there might be something in the local security policy that will allow you to dictate that downlevel authentication should be used.

Hope that fairly clear.

Thanks I'll take a look.
Would that account for the connection dropping after a random period though?

I can sometimes connect but then for no apparent reason it will disconnect me while I'm working (both while working over the network and when not working over the network)

It's possible, because Kerberos works on a ticket granting system that expires after a set time. The client is then forced to re-authenticate, which might be where you're having problems. I do admit that it's very odd behavior though....
