Problem booting some CDs

I am trying to install VectorLinux on an old NEC Versa 6050MH laptop.

I have this weird problem where some CDs will boot and some CDs will not. Knoppix and my DOS boot disk work fine, but all my other CDs which are bootable, the machine just keeps restarting over and over again, and won't boot.

Anyone have any idea what might cause this???

A default screen-resolution which is out of the possibilities of the laptop?
A non-standard acpi/ apm?
