Hello we are currently not getting a full backup of our exchange server. It starts to back up and we get a E8602 failed to read from database (Dbname=directory EC backup agent error=305) HrBackupOpenFile failed. At the same time on our Exchange server we get 2 event errors:

1st one is Event ID 145 MSExchangeDS(234) The database engine could not access the file called D:\Exchsrvr\DSADATA\Dir.pat

2nd one is Event ID:105 MSExchangeDS(234)The database engine has stopped the backup with error -1032

Any clues as to what is happening? There is no dir.pat on the exchange server to access.

Thanks in advance.

Hi SMF,

This problem can occur if the current backup job conflicts with another backup job, which may or may not be Exchange Server aware. When the Extensible Storage Engine (ESE) backup process cannot open a transaction log because there is a conflicting backup job, ESE97 generates the two events in the "Symptoms" section of this article, and the backup program stops.

Disable one of the conflicting backup jobs. You may need to contact the software vendor to find the conflicting backup job.

Cheers
