Hello. My apologies for such a long post - I wanted to be sure to include all relevant info.

We are having problems backing up Exchange 2003 Public Folders.

We are running Networker 6.1.3 on a Solaris 8 machine. We have the Exchange Module and are backing up saveset MSEXCH: ok.

We are migrating from Exchange 5.5 and tested PF backups prior to replicating the Public Folders to the new server & it appeared to work ok.

Here's a bit from the log before the PF were migrated -

12/18/03 10:49:23 nsrd: exchange:MSEXCH:pF saving to pool 'Full' (Partial.00275)
12/18/03 10:49:29 nsrd: exchange:MSEXCH:pF done saving to pool 'Full' (Partial.00275) 12 KB

And here's what we are seeing now (small sample of 817 pages of logs!)

12/23/03 00:06:15 nsrd: exchange:MSEXCH:pF saving to pool 'Full' (Partial.00360)
12/23/03 01:47:54 nsrd: exchange:MSEXCH:pF done saving to pool 'Full' (Partial.00360) 1458 MB

then it reports this information -

* exchange:MSEXCH:pF nsrxchsv_ese.exe Version: 4.0.0.44 Supporting Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF System Version: 5.2 Build 3790
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF ESEBCLI2.DLL Version: 6.5.6944.0
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF Performing an Exchange save operation; save level is Full (Legato Backup Level: full).
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF Parsing parameters from the command line
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF Public folders that are not replicated to EXCHANGE will not be backed up.
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF Starting backup of folder tree: "Public Folders"
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF Starting backup of folder: "ACSBE"
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF Processing "Greg's"

And it'll continue on reporting 'processing' for various folders but then it'll hit one & complain as follows -

* exchange:MSEXCH:pF Processing "Final"
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF mbpfsv(2031): Encode item properties failed. Error: 0x800a0e98
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF COM error: 0x800a0e98
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF Source: Unknown
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF Description: Unknown
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF mbpfsv(1484): Error encoding item properties: 0x800a0e98.
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF Item name: Busi 3063 Final-67FA07E8-5FF8-11D3-A7D4-00A024B226E1-4360C8-M.doc
* exchange:MSEXCH:pF unknown error -2146824552 (0x800a0e98)

It does appear to backup some as it reports it processed other folders ok but the error shows up for the majority
of our folders.

The backup does eventually complete (after about 10 hours), however, it reports this in the log every few hours -

12/23/03 00:06:15 nsrd: exchange:MSEXCH:pF saving to pool 'Full' (Partial.00360)
12/23/03 01:47:54 nsrd: exchange:MSEXCH:pF done saving to pool 'Full' (Partial.00360) 1458 MB

Thanks in advance!!

Actually according to the compatiability guide, NetWorker 6.x is ok. But he needs to use NetWorker Module for Exchange, version 3.1 or even better v4.0

The database may have been corrupted during the move. Try doing a database check. I believe the utility is called esutils?

I successfully backup Exchange2003 using Legato Module for Exchange 4.0
Exchange server=Windows2000
Networker version=6.1.3
Size=10 Go Savetime=18 minutes

I hope it helps...

Our exchange person just tried using ntbackup on the exchange server to backup just the Public Folders to a file and that worked.

Does that mean it's definitely a Networker problem?

Sorry but I'm not the exchange person but I would think that rules out a problem on the exchange server...?

Thanks for your responses!
