Problem backing up announcements

I am using a Definity SI G3 V 11.0 and trying to make a backup of my announcements.

Our VAL Board is a TN 2501

Anyway checking previous forum threads, I have been able to FTP into my board and have been able to copy the WAV files off to my system.

However with my PC, I am unable to play back the WAV's and the size of them are very small. For about 30 announcements, the size is only about 7 kb.

My question is that am I not supposed to be able to listen to the announcements and why are the wav's so small?

I do not have VAL Manager however am getting pricing for it. Downloaded an announcement backup from Uticall however cannot get that to work.

At any rate if you can offer any advice I would be more than happy to hear it.

I can't even see mine locally using the same configuration. I log into the board, see the announcements adn then after it says download complete, nothing I don't see them anywhere locally on my PC.

Anyone have an issue like mine as well. Not tryign to highjack your thread but mine sort of simular, just don't see them.

I had the same problem as you did however what I did to correct it was the following.

Created a folder on my machine called VALBACKUP.

While in FTP typed the following

get filename.wav c:\valbackup filename.wav

It transfered over to the folder. One thing I did find out was that it was case sensitive.

However even though they appear as wav files, I cannot listen to them. Maybe you can duplicate what I did and let me know if you have the same problem as with not being able to listen to them.

Did you switch to binary mode before getting the file? If you don't switch to binary, it won't work.

I'll check these out tomorrow. When you say while in FTP, do you mean the VAL App? How do I switch to binary mode?

Thanks all.

I was talking about a command line ftp. If you
enable filesystem board <board> login <user> <password>
Then you can start a ftp session directly to the board, using it's administered IP address, to 'get' the announcement files. You have to type 'binary' to enter binary mode before 'get'ting the files.

I know whitfield77 has another issue but concerning my orignal post, I was able to get a copy of Val Manager so I have successfully backed up my announcement.

Sorry, I was originally referring to ziggysmalls post when I mentioned switching to binary. Just thought yratellim may be able to try it also. I've had issues with VAL Manager backups not getting ALL of the files, so I occasionally ftp the files manually.

This stinks. Still can't figure out why my files are not transfering using the VAL Manager App.

Did you try ziggysmalls suggestion and manually ftp the files?
Have you ever been able to move files to/from this board using Val manager? What all have you done so far?

Just trying to get an idea of where you are at in the overall process of implementing val boards.

yratellim - what version of val manager are you using? I currently have 2.0.8 and I'm having an issue with moving announcements between boards.

Are you getteing any errors in the Val Logs? The one im getting is that it cannot ping ip addx ''. Which to me means it does not know the ip address of the val board. When i right click on the val board and hit properties, I dont have an IP address listed. I currently have a case open with avaya on this.

Instead of trying to download the wav files in a windows command window. Try using WS_FTP or some other FTP program. I was able to download, and play my wave files using that app.
