hello,

My problem is more a general problem then an asp one, but I would really apreciate if you could help...

I've built a new site, to which our intranet users enter through a link from an existing site. Both sites reside on the same NT 4 server. Although all the users can enter the old site, some of them (but not all) get "Page not found" error on the new site (even when not using the entry link and just typing the address of any page on the new site).

Any pointers as to what can cause such a problem? As far as I can tell, both sites have identical DSN and IIS definitions (although the old site is under the and the new one is on a virtual directory).

Thanks,

Yael

Well, I guess I'm a bit ignorant here. I never set any user groups on the IIS or, to be honest, known there was such a thing. I only created the virtual directory and the DSN. Where are those groups set? (I'm sorry if this is too much off topic, tell me and I'll try finding help in a more appropriate place).

Thanks,

Yael

Excuse my last comment, if it was a permissions issue the page would be a "You are not authorised" page however you have a "Page not found". Is the new Virtual Directory setup the same as the existing one but with just a different physical path?

Also, have a look in the IIS activity log to see what IP Addresses have been requesting pages from it. Find out the IP address of one of the users who cannot access the site and see if his IP address is in that log. If it is then, hmm??? else if it isnt then for some reason that users request for your page is not being directed to the correct IIS server.
PS. that IIS log file might be massive, depending how much activity your IIS server gets a day, so open it at your own risk!

as far as I can see, the new and old site have the same setup on the IIS. Anything specail I should check?
I will look intro the log (at my own risk) Sunday, when I'm back to work. Thanks for all your help!

Yael

Ok, I've checked the IIS access log, and indeed, the requests coming from the problematic users are not recorded on the log. I will try and get a system person to check why.

Thanks

Yael

well, the problem was solved by changing the name of the computer in the address to its IP aquivalent. It seems some computers couldn't resolve the name, from some reason.

man i hate that, spending time on a problem that you think is yours and after hours of head bashing you find out it is someone elses problem!
