Hi,
I have a mostly-linux LAN with all Linux PCs disks mutually accessible through NFS. Plus a few Windows PCs.
Windows XP machine accessing a Fedora Core 2 PC running Samba server 3.0.10 (same after upgrading to 3.0.14). Everything works just fine when accessing directories and files that are local on the server. But when I move (using symbolic links present on the Linux machine) to a directory which physically resides on another Linux machine, the problem arises:
Changing directories (folders as seen on WinXP) and displaying their contents works fine. But any attempt to access individual file (copy, properties etc.) takes almost forever and usually fails. On the SMB server I can see plenty of "smbd -D" processes (say 15 instead of typical 2-3).
What is even more confusing is that it used to work OK before and I cannot think of any important change done to any of the systems involved.
Needless to say, the NFS connection between the Linux machines works perfectly when I access the same files from the SMB server directly.
Any ideas, hints would be appreciated,
regards, Michal.
