Hi,
I have a networked DB with about 6 users each with front end access installed on their machines. The Database is 2 months old and until today ran fine (no major changes since build). Now when users try to access the Back End on the server I get one of the following messages:

1.The ‘countries' file is already open (countries is a lookup table within the BE DB)

2.The DB is currently being exclusively used by another user or you do not have permission to access this file.

I closed all user access to the BE DB yet the .LDB file still existed. I tried to delete it but it wouldn't allow me (access denied, make sure the disk is not full or write protected etc), even though there was no DB's connected to the BE.

I would appreciate any advice.

TIA
Rob

You might try the ldb viewer

...and see if it'll tell you who has the backend locked up. I don't know if it works with 2003. We're running 2002 here, and the viewer coughs up a bunch of errors but eventually shows me a list of who is connected.

When I have the problem, nobody is locked out of the back end, but even when all my users are signed out, the ldb file still shows as in use. I have to have all my users log into the system again, then log back out. That's usually enough to clear the connection.

I try not to let my ignorance prevent me from offering a strong opinion.
