my computer has recently crashed. and before i reformat it i want to take some important work off my documents but dos want allow this.
i have tried the following commands:
c:\mydocu~1

and i have also tried
c:\dir
which indictes that my documents is still there
could anyone tell me how to get they work back
also it want allow me into any any other directories such as windows
thanks in antisipaction

Repeatedly tap the F8 key upon startup, and select "Command Prompt Only" from the menu.
From there, you can copy anything you want to a floppy.
The command would be:
cd mydocu~1
copy *.* a: (this will copy all contents of the folder, but not any sub folders).
If you want to copy the sub folders:
cd mydocu~1
xcopy32 *.* a:\ /y /s
If you get a "invalid command" error, put this line before it:
path=c:\windows\command

Now that's out of the way, why do you think a reformat is necessary?
What OS are you using?
Have you tried any of the repair options?
