I am looking for a very inexpensive Probe amplifier. The cheapest one I found was $50.00 I have techs that have a cable checker with a generator. They just need something to hear it with.
Does anyone know of any cheaper models? Non-profit company wants something cheaper.

At that price eBay is the place to go.

The inductive amplifier used my most techs is the Tempo (Progressive) 200EP. For my money the 200FP is a much better tool but it is out of your price range.

A quick check of "inductive amplifier" on eBay turned up this:

cgi.ebay.com/GREENLEE-BA200-INDUCTIVE-AMPLIFIER-VERIZON-NEW-LOOK_W0QQitemZ180177463771

$19 including shipping and it appears to be a Greenlee/Verizon labeled Tempo 200EP. They have two. I would hurry...

Thanks Wires, I might have to use ebay. I use the Progressive, and have used it for years. This is a small starter kit I am trying to get for the guys. I just have limited expense. I am trying to get a little of everything for them.

Home Depot has a Fluke Toner/probe Kit with pouch for $64. I think they work pretty well for the price.

DTSMAN, cant find the comments of doing away with an amplifier. Not sure where that was or how this is possible. Great tips on how to send tone.

It isn't unless you have some special fillings in your teeth. All probes are some form of an inductive amplifier. Of course sending a tone down a singe wire and ground or a non twisted wire will create a stronger field for the inductive amplifier to pick up.

If you are looking to put together an inexpensive telecom kit there was a thread here in the last year or so that addressed that issue. The only working link I can find is:

which does not have a toner or probe. Techtoolsupply.com is a decent took source. They carry the Test-Um line of test equipment which offers great value. I just got setup with minicoax cable, connectors and tooling for a very reasonable price. Fast shipment and no hassle returns. Highly recommended.

Are you trying to put together one kit for all to share or outfit some number of techs with the same equipment? If you are a little more exact in what you are trying to accomplish we can give better suggestions.

Thanks Wires!
I am not looking for tools, just a probe amplifier as stated in my original post. I have most tools, just as you recommended. The Test-um line of products are great starter tools. I am looking for 3 Amplifiers. I have found 1 paladin amplifier in a tool kit, that had no tools.?. The inexpensive part was beacuse I was trying to find 3-4. I believe getting 1-2 of the Ideal/Progressive tools will work. Its just not what I wanted.

I tried without a Probe, It works when I put the ground on my filling in my mouth. Good part/Bad part. You can hear it really loud, but no volume adjustment.

I know they called it that, but what is it really called.
