Platform: A Dell Inspiron running XP Professional v. 2.002 SP 3

Browsers, IE 8.x and Firefox 3.5x have failed to process http files sent from servers
I can successfully ping the sites, domain names => IP # conversions OK
Entering IP # in http URL address makes no difference.

All returns "Done" in Status Bar, and no page displayed.

Within local LAN same problem exist, Status html page of printer not displayed but jobs sent to printer will be processed.

Hints, suggestions welcomed.

Thanks.

Sounds to me like the Winsocks got a bit scrambled...

to fix the winsocks in XP, type the following in a CMD window (START >> RUN >> type CMD >> hit ENTER):

netsh winsock reset catalog

I would also take a look at the FireWall, these sometimes block HTTP requests...

How to ask a question, when posting them to a professional forum.
Only ask questions with yes/no answers if you want "yes" or "no"

The last thread we had along these lines, if I remember correctly, turned out to be a problem with Proxy settings?

in addition, there was a bug in avg antivirus that prevented http but not https, that was in october 2008 and should not apply anymore.
