Hi all from John in the N.W. UK

Firstly, this is a "discussion", I do not have a problem, (well not any that relate to the following anyhow !!)

During our daily work we see more and more infections from "drive by" viruses, known generally under the name "fake anti virus".

As many on here will be aware these type of viruses come with a variety of names such as "Security alert 2010" "AVP" etc etc.

From what I can gather, this virus morphs slightly almost daily (this info could be wrong !!) making conventional anti-virus software helpless.

They can be got rid of fairly easily.
We use a Linux "quarantine" PC (re-imaged each use) with a variety of tools. Even booting on the host PC and running "the usual suspects", i.e. Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, Hijack this etc will usually get shut of it.

However I would like to discuss possible "proactive" defense against this one.

Non of the A/V / Security products we have tried seem able to stop it getting onto a PC. This includes Norton, AVG's "Site adviser" and any of the other common products ( Kaspersky, McAfee, etc )

Has anyone found a product that will perform this function ?

If at first you don't succeed, keep at it until you can't even think straight !

Edit = Please ignore this thread - I just found a discussion on here about just this and I will join in on that one !

If any mods are here, feel free to delete this topic

btw = yes I do feel silly now !!

Note to self = check before posting !!
