This took us by suprise

We recentlly upgraded from Oracle 9g to 10i. As with any upgrade we hafgve had a few issues but the one last night was a suprise.

We granted an explicit privilege to an account.
We then needed to grant a role to that account that was only temporary.
When we revoked the role it also revoked the explicit privilege even though that privilege was not in the role.
Any ideas on why it does this or what we can do to fix it?

I cannot imagine that such a behaviour is what Oracle intended. If you are telling us "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth" about what happened, then that is a bug.

Contact metalink.oracle.com. Determine if someone has already identified that as a bug. If not, then log it as a bug.

In the meantime, the obvious workaround is to re-grant the privilege.
