Hello all its been many, many, many years since i fooled with the Cisco CLI so my skills are obsolete.

I wiped out the config on a Catalyst 2984G-GE-TX switch and am attempting to configure it with basic IP, mask info.

But when i attempt to go to configure mode i never seem to get there.
The prompt will show >Console
I type in enable and hit enter. (no password yet)
and i end up with >Console (enable)

Not sure what that is but should i not see the # to signify that i am in config mode? I cant seem to get there.

Thanks!!!

This is a Catalyst OS switch, not an IOS switch, so the prompts and commands are very different.

Well that would explain why i have never seen this...Its been over 5 years....

could you point me to the nessasary commands that i need to inptut to configure this switch with an IP/mask and so on?

Thanks!!!

for basic connectivity "set int sc0 <ip address> <mask> , then do a set ip route default <default gateway address> and this will get it on the air with everything in vlan 1 . To set passwords doa set password command and set the intial password then do a set enablepass command to set the enable password.

jneiberger and vipergg...

You two have helped me tremendously. I now have this switch pretty much operational. (Sort of :) )

Two questions....

I have searched and searched but cannot find the command to save the config.
write mem does not work and copy run start variations do not either.
How do I save the running config to startup config???

Also
how do I specify/change the http password and or username?
I have enabled http access but cannot access the switch. Or do you know what the default is on this type of switch?

You don't have to save the config on a Catalyst OS device. Changes are automatically saved to the "startup" configuration.

I'm glad you got it working!

jneiberger .... WOW these are sooooo different.

Any idea on the http access?

I have poured over all the commands that are available for the Catalyst OS and cant seem to find a way to set the http password or user name. Therefore i still cannot access the web interface.

So is the Catalyst OS the wave of the future or is this just an odball setup?

Thanks again!!!

I have no idea about the http access. I've never tried to set it up on CatOS.

CatOS is an older OS that is actually going away, I think. Pretty much all of Cisco's newer switches are IOS-based, which is both good and bad. I prefer IOS, but certain things are much easier in CatOS.

You have to have specific code on the supervisor to use the gui interface . It has to be what is called ciscoview code . If it is the right code when you do a "dir bootflash: somewhere in the name it will have "cv" in the name of the bin file . then you would have to do a set ip http server enable I believe. We have a ton of these so if you have other questions write back . We don't use the gui just CLI .

Cool info, vipergg. I didn't know that about the cv code on CatOS switches.

vipergg:

Thanks for the post..
I typed in the "dir bootflash:" command and below is the output. Not much showing and nothing with CV in the filename.
Just to note, i have enabled the HTTP access with the "set ip http server enable" command and when i attempt to connect via IE i do get a login box. (allways have) But none of the passwords that i use on swtich work.

Here is that output..

11065920 bytes available (4662720 bytes used)
Console> (enable) dir bootflash:
-#- -length- -----date/time------ name
1 4662592 --- -- ---- --:--:-- cat4000-k8.8-3-2-GLX.bin

11065920 bytes available (4662720 bytes used)
Console> (enable)

I really want this web interface since i am totaly ignorant of this OS that i dont know if it is configured corectly or not. The web interface gives me a GUI to "ignorantly" poke around the config without havng to know the commands.

Thanks for all of your posts!!
