I am working on configuring BCM50s. I assign a particular target line to a particular set. If I use the set DN in the public field no matter what extension I dial they all go to the prime/control set. If I use the private field it works the way I expect it to, each extension that is dialed rings. I should explain that this occurs from external to that location using a coordinated dialing plan and gatekeeper. My limited understanding of private vs. public is that private means only that extension can access that DN so that features such as call pickup will not work. Obviously, I am missing the boat here. Any thoughts on private vs. public would be appreciated.

Private

Private is used primarily for networking systems (BCM to BCM, BCM to Meridian). This would be the field where you would put the private number on the private network. This is normally the extension number but might be a seperate number depending on how the system is networked and what system it is networked to.

Public

Public is used for Public networking. This would be the field where you would put your public number (DDI number) from your public telephone exchange.

This means you only require one target line number to program your private network (system to system) and public number (your DDI).

Hope this makes sense

Marshall
