I run Win98 desktops on a Novell 4.11/5.0 network. This is the second machine I have had this problem with. The pc will print to all other printers on the network, but will not print to a particular printer. The user can print to the printer from another pc, so it is not an Network rights issue. Other users can print to the printer, so it is not a printer issue. I can place jobs directly in the que from the workstation in question and they print, so it is not a que issue. I have resolved this issue down to windows. I have rerinstalled windows and this does not work; however, if I format the hard drive and then reinstall windows it solves the issue. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a patch that I am not finding? Are there certain files that I can delete and replace? Formatting a workstation is pretty drastic when that machine is in the finance office or similiarly important. All help will be appreciated.
Gus: What program(s) are they printing from? What kind of printer is it? I assume you're using the same drivers for everybody. Are you making sure all the temp files are deleted (*.tmp,~*.*) from the entire hard drive? I realize this is basic stuff, but you never know. If a print job crashes, the temporary spool file can sit in the way and disallow printing with no error messages.

What do you mean by: "I can place jobs directly in the que from the workstation in question and they print"

from a dos prompt when you execute

net view \\NovelServerName
from the workstation do you see the que/printer ?

is IPX/SPX installed and configured ?
is the Server and workstation using the same IPX/SPX Frame type

Can you otherwise pass data to the Server (files...)?
Steve Bowman
steve.bowman@wayservices.com
