One XP Laptop that is comes and goes in this one office, has issues with printing. After getting about 10 print jobs in quere, the 6th or 7th will error out.
This printer is a HP Laserjet 4000 that is network in a peer to peer workgroup. Its shared out though a workstation acting as a server.
Both workstation and laptop are XP Pro. I removed the printer and re-added it using PCL 5e on both the server and the laptop.
Now the laptop prints very slowly in word, excel, test page, any application. The pause is from 10 to 13 seconds. Already looked at HP resolution, and it didnt work. Re-serviced pack the machine, but no good. No other computer in the office is having this problem. The laptop works fine at the user's house, where it is connected to a brother's printer.

If the network share is done by machine name (eg \\xp_pro_server\printer is there an internal DNS server or entry in hosts file to point to the 'server' machine?

I have seen this with both Win2K and XP before; if the primary DNS Server is not set or set incorrectly, it can take forever to do even the simplest things on a LAN.
