Hi,

Does anyone knows how to setup an AIX box to print to a HP printer attached to an NT workstation?

Timc

Tim,

From the AIX side it is quite easy, just do

smitty spooler

select add a printer queue

select remote

select standard processing - i.e. all page formating will be done on the NT box.

Name of queue to add : (this is the name shown within AIX i.e. what you lp to)
Hostname of remote server: (this is the hostname of the NT box in the local /etc/hosts file, make sure that you can ping it o.k.)
Name of queue on remote server: (this is the queue name on NT i.e. what is shown in the printer control panel)

Leave the rest as default unless you are on > AIX 4.3.2 then select:

Backend timeout period = 1500

Thats the job done from the UNIX end, on the NT server you need to go into control panel - services and start the LPD printer server. This will then mean that the NT box will accept remote print requests......If the option is not there you need to install off the NT installation media.....

Let me know how you get on....
