How can a PC, that is not logged into a Windows domain print to a networked printer? I belive HP has some sort of software for this purpose, but am not sure what it is called.
The advantage to having printers connected to workstations is that you don't need to add network cards onto the printer and it doesn't need a separate wire to the switch.
The disadvantage is that the user with the printer has to leave their computer on. Generally for an NT domain I make sure the workstation has enabled printer sharing and shared their printer, then anyone can "add a printer" (Start/Settings/Printers) that looks at \\stationname\sharename.
If the user only logs off, then others can still print. I always tell users that if they reboot the computer and then want to walk away, I ask them first to log on then log off after the reboot to ensure that others can print to their printer. I'm not sure that the extra step of logging on/off is needed to enable the sharing after a reboot, but that has stopped occasional "no printer" reports.
