I have a customer with several Win98 clients, when printing they will only get pages with three characters on them “ {>} “starting in the top left and move across the page to the right and then start back at the left again. It’s like a flip book you had when you were a kid. They say it only happens sometimes when their printing, when it does though it will pump all the paper out of the cassettes. The 2K’s and Xp’s aren’t effected. The network is peer printing via 9100 using a proprietary port printing tool from Ricoh. They have run the Bug Bear tool and have found nothing. We shut down SMB printing and left only LPR and 9100

It doesn't sound like a virus tbh, I assume you have tried the usual array of Driver checks etc. We have had it happen on the odd occasion with our HP laserjets and never solved out why.

Possibly not a virus at all.
Try this....it worked for me!
In my case it was a non compliant cable, and I didn't know that there were different types. Parallel cable is not a parallel cable apparently.
The driver for the external tape device installed by windows backup can be renamed to solve the problem in a lot of cases as well.
Good luck! Kimber

The more I learn,I realize how much more there is to know!
