I seem to have flakey printing on my nt4 lan. i have a print server,(compaq desktop) running jetadmin on nt4 platform. Some problems include, having to change paper settings, not being able to see the printer, the printer takes forever to receive the data, spooling takes an eternity.

some help please i have tried everything twice.

are your desktops spooling or printing directly to printer? If they are spooling, change to direct as they are actually printing to a spooler...

Get rid of jetadmin altogether. Put all your printers on the server. Pray you can get driver-only drivers for them from HP.. After installing all printers dig into your services and get rid of any extraneous print monitors the HP "driver-onlies" installed anyway. Share the printers and the workstations print to the shares.

HP makes great printers but tends to do a lot of STUPID (are you listening HP?) things with their drivers.
Jeff
masterracker@hotmail.com

Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most ...

We had serious problems with the spoolers hanging on our shared HP4000N printers. Updating the firmware of the Jetdirect card in the printers has probably reduced the help desk calls related to this problem by about 50%.
The HP website has what you need to perform the update from your desk over the LAN/WAN.
