HI

i have a p2p setup with a 170x print server (hp 4600/ 96 meg, connected by parallel port).

publisher files are sent to the printer across the net but print slow.

Should i upgrade the print server to speed up? if so what model and what about netgear and others products?

If it`s regarding complex printjobs a driver change might work out, fx. a change to a post script driver. It might also be, that the transfer speed of the external JetDirect 170 is simply to slow. Adding an internal JetDirect card 8fx. JD 615 N) to the printer will definatly speed up the transfer of the job, but not the processing. External printservers are cheaper, but lacks when it comes to transfer speed as they communicate over a parallel port while internal JetDirects uses TCT/IP directly. Another disadvantage of external printerservers are that they have to support bi-directional mode fully to work properly with HP printers.
