First question: Do you have Acrobat installed?
Otherwise there is a way to update PPD-files included in Pagemaker.
You can find all the necessary updates o PPD's at the Adobe support system.
When I place Photoshop files into Pagemaker, the images are not as sharp as they originals printed directly from Photoshop. What am I missing? Both for B&W and color?
Set "High Resolution" in the preferences. Anyway, the screen
shows a fast, not necessarily excellent preview. PM is used
for arranging elements on a page, it´s not an image viewer.
Printing is really something different.

sbruni,
Go to Adobe's web site, and follow the support/download/printing drivers and get to the Adobe Acrobat PPD part. Download this small text file and put it into your ppd folder.
On the pc, its deep in the pm65 directory under \\PM65\RSRC\USENGLSH\PPD4. Put this file in this folder.
Voila. Now PageMaker will be able to find the acrobatppd!!
