I've got two old Tally T6215 line printers, and am using label form to printer labels to them. i've been trying to test fonts out and haven't been able to make the font different on the printouts, no matter what font i use. i'm changing it with report/propeties. then change the default font. currently it's lucida sans typewriter. if i change it, the printout continues to look the same. How do I change the font so that it will print differently?
thanks,
Doug

Oh, and i have the same issue printing to a laser printer as well.

You're printing labels. The font used is defined in each label element. So, did you change the labels controls?

Tally printers might use embedded fonts. The same can go with (old) laser printers. Do you print via a driver? Look into driver options.

Bye, Olaf.

Are you trying to print with printer-resident fonts? Or are they TrueType fonts installed on your computer?

If the latter, are you sure the printer driver supports downloadable fonts? Is there a setting on the printer (such as a dip switch) which is forcing it to print in text mode rather than graphics mode? Most dot matrix printers can only print TrueType in graphics mode (or "bitmap" mode).

Is it possible that your report or label has got an embedded printer environment? To check that, open the report or label desginer, go to the Report menu, and make sure Printer Environment is not ticked. Then save the report and try again.

By the way, when you talk about a "line printer", I assume you mean a dot-matrix printer? A line printer is a completely different animal, and not one that you are likely to come across in a PC environment.

Another point: What happens when you try to print to this printer from another application, such as Microsoft Word? Does it correctly print the fonts in your document? If we knew that, we could determine whether the fault lies with printer / driver, or with VFP.

Also, can you get the printer to print a test sheet? If so, does that show the full range of fonts, or what?

Mike

okay, just discovered I need to change the font line by line, not just change the default font in Report/Properties.

I think I am good for now. thanks for your input.

You can also select multiple controls and change their common properties. But indeed report properties only will change the default for controls you add after changing the report defaults.

Bye, Olaf.
