Hello All, Recently my company made the switch from Quark XPress to InDesign. Everything went smoother than expected with the exception of printing. We are able to print to all the usual printers no problem, but we have a LinoType Herkules that we print to regularlly, and although InDesign see it, and prints to it (sort of) I can't get the settings we need to work. When I am in Quark, in the print dialog, the printer PPD shows up as 'generic imagesetter' but in Indesign, this is not an option. When I print, regardless of what I have set in my page set up & printer, the image is printed 75% off of the film. Is there anyone out there printing to Imagesetters with InDesign, and is there a setting somewhere that I am over looking? Is there a specific ppd that I need?

You absolutely should be using the proper PPD for your imagesetter. Using a "generic" PPD should only be used as a last resort: For instance if you have to get a print out but aren't concerned with accurate settings.

If you are not using the proper PPD for your device, you may be missing out on settings/resolution/features/etc. that the device has to offer. Also, most of the options in the print dialog are device-specific so your results (when using the improper PPD) will be haphazard.

Install the PPD for your imagesetter and choose it as the printer...you can't choose the PPD when printing, because the PPD is tied to the printer when you set the printer up. The only time you can choose a PPD is when you're printing to a Postscript file.
