I have a bunch of computers that when printing to HP printers (I've mostly noticed it on the HP 4100TN or 4050tn) that when they print and if the paper is out or someone put in letter instead of legal. There print stops and the jobs are stuck. Right now they either reboot or I restart the print spooler which usually works. I have the pc's updated to the lates patches, they are using the latest HP drivers. I've tried changing the spooling options on the software driver on the PC. No luck.

You need to call an HP printer service guy. There is a sensor arm that is easily broken, and when broken creates the issue your are experiencing.

The problem isn't with the printer it's with the computers. If a computer has printed to a printer and the printer runs out of paper you should be able to load up more paper and the print job will continue. Currently the print job will stop and it won't start printing again. Deleting the print job and trying again won't do anything. I actually have to restart the print spooler or restart the PC.

Darn, I should have written: "You need to call an HP printer repair technician"; they are not all guys.

Someone with great arm strength replaces the paper try and rips the little arm off inside. It is a simple repair/replacement.

If that little paper sensor is broken, your only choice is to turn the printer off, and turn it back on.

From the workstation, your only choice is to clean the queued job, and resend it.

Get a repair of the paper out sensor. It is not horribly expensive.
