Is it possible to setup a Winodows 2000 Server to print to a printer outside of the LAN. If so what ports need to be opened up on the Router and how is it configured?

I have access to the router of both machines and both machines can have dedicated ip addresses setup for them if necessary available publically. I'd prefer them to have a public ip address that is also filtered by ports so only the necessary ports are open however.

If the printer has a URL that can be found on the WAN, then you can set up to print via Windows Internet Explorer. I assume that you mean the printer is not located locally to the LAN, but that it is accessable via the WAN? In other words, you could be in California and print to a printewr in Chicago, provided ther i an Internet connectivity available, and you have permission to access the resource.

hi

hpJetDirect uses port 9100 ( printer-servers with more than a parallel port uses also 9101,9102,...)

lpd protocol uses port 515

I am not sure you have to open ports in a router

bye
