My office purchased a Canon ImageRunner LBP5975 for our mixed PC/Mac environment– everything we'd research prior to the purchase indicated it would work fine with our Macs. Our IT folks installed the machine today; the PCs can see and print to it just fine, but our Macs (OSX 10.4) can't see it. After installing both PPD and UFRII drivers from Canon's site with no luck, we were finally told by the printer vendor that we'd have to buy something called a PS-ROM for $700 in order for the printer to work with Macs.

Is anyone familiar with the Canon LBP5975? Is it supposed to work with Macs, or is there indeed extra "stuff" we need to buy for the Macs to be able to print to it (or even see it in the Add Printer interface)?

Thanks,

Yep, you have to install the Postscript chip to print from a MAC. $700. is about right. Mr. Adobe wants his cut.

Most standalone printers in this category include the chip.

Thanks for the info. Although it stinks we weren't informed of that from the vendor in the first place, at least it's nice knowing it's a true issue and not just a scam.
