Hi,
When printing anything out to a local printer over terminal services it is incredibly slow. And you can't do anything while its printing, because that is also slow - it's way too slow to be able to play solitaire.
Hence I'd assume it's because of the amount of data being sent? Is there any way I can speed this up without paying for a faster connection?
We've got the main office on 1mb cable with windows 2000 server, and the remote office on 512k adsl (256k upload) windows 2000 professional.

you should only use network printers in citrix or term serv environment
preferably postscript and preferably only over ip

the link will probably not make a great deal of difference - local printing just sucks - the file sizes involved are quite large due to the way printing works

In that case would installing an lpr print server on the client machine, and printing to that be any faster than using terminal services directly?

yep should be quicker

not a fan off this kind of thing - as it's very localised so control of this cannot be done remotely

jet direct would be better but lpr would be better but as long as other peolpe dont try to print to it from a terminal session
