When my users are printing their reports I have heard numerous complaints that they can't print the whole report via clicking on the [print] button and then clicking File à Print under the IE menu in the Micro-Strategy web client.

Example [x-report] has 75 pages to it, when a user goes to print the report they receive a page with about 5-6 pages of the report on it and a link for [Next block of pages] on the right, at this time the user has to navigate through 15 links and print each page before the report is completely printed. There has to be a better way of doing this other then exporting the report to an external application.

Any suggestions would be great

Thanks

This may be the Pages Per Block (ie the max number of pages to be printed at once) setting.

As Web Administrator, select the link to 'Project Default' from the Preferences options.

Select the link to 'Print'.

Change the 'Pages Per Block' setting to something more appropriate - say 100 in your case. The default is 10, but your post suggests 6 (?)

Select Apply.

Thanks for the reply.

oddly enough under the project defaults i find the following options for "Page Per Block" though

Maximum number of cells per block: 1000
Maximum number of graphs per block: 100

i have the above set but it doesn't seem to change the output.

weird huh,
thanks

scroll down the page...

the "Pages Per Block" setting is further down the same page

thats weird, i don't see another set of options on the [PRINT] page.

could it be hidden?
thanks

no doubt it depends on the version of mstr7 - what are you using? I took a look at TN5600-7X0-0105, for 7.x

OK, so it depends on the version... here's my thinking.

you have the "Maximum number of cells per block: 1000" set up. This implies to me that you could, for example, print a set of data that was 100 rows long by 10 columns wide in one go. Assuming that your report contains more than 1000 cells if you print thru MSTR you would get the first 1000 cells then a prompt would come up like "Next Block Of Pages".

So, is it feasible that if you change the "Maximum number of cells per block" to something more suitable (you tell me what the number of cells in your 75 page report is!) then you will be able to print the whole thing?

Of course, you might suddenly find huge performance issues - hence the limiters.
