I made a report that run out of our custom software. The report can produce many pages. An example may be a 500 page report.

My question is, why does it take so long to print one page of the report. Say I want to print on page 7 of 500, it can take up to five minutes to print. I need to be able to explain this to our clients so they can undestand why this financial report takes so long to print, even when printing only one page.

Thanks!
Sharon

Is this a network printer?
What version of CR are you using?
How many records are returned in 500 page report.
Check the bottom left of the screen while waiting, is the wait while:
reading the records
generating the first page
or sending a single previewed page to print?

Also, does the report use "Page 1 of 500" for page numbers? This will force it to layout every page to calculate the page count before it can print any page. Ken Hamady

I think the report is probably spooling all 500 pages before delivering page 7 (or whatever page/s) to your printer.

If your organisation is using Seagate Info, you might want to try scheduling your report. This way you can take advantage of the 'page-on-demand' technology within the Seagate Info software.

This will deliver one page at a time to the printer, not wait until all pages have been spooled and therefore speed up the printing process a great deal.
