PageMaker 6.52. In File>Document Setup I select Letter Half (5.5 x 8.5), Tall, and under Compose to Printer, select my HP InkJet 1000 printer. In File>Print I choose the HP InkJet 1000, and set the User Defined paper size at 5.5 x 8.5, portrait.

When I print the document, it's location on the 5.5 x 8.5 paper is off-center. It's centering my PageMaker document as if the printer's target paper was set at 8.5 x 11.0, portrait. I thought it might be a compatibility problem with this printer, but I'm having the same exact problem with my HP InkJet 5550 and my HP wide format Inkjet1200, so I'm guessing that I'm missing a critical setup issue in PageMaker. Any suggestions?

Hi, zepperke,

I think you're just going to have to experiment.

I'm not familiar with any of the printers you're using, but I've experienced similar things with HP printer drivers. For example, you may need to re-set the default page size for your printer to 5½"×8½" via the printer properties in the Control panel.

Great idea, but I've already tried doing that. I'm a "stop & start" PageMaker user, i.e. get very familiar with it every time I have to use the program for a project, then have to reaquaint myself when I pick it up again when the next project rolls around in a few months.

All the glitches I've experienced can be explained by browsing and trying different combinations of things, but this one's got me. I've gone through the printer settings for all three HP's and looked through all the controls in PageMaker. I thought I was missing something elemental in PageMaker considering my amateur status. Next stop, HP. Thanks, John, for your time!
