I typically use Adobe Indesign CS to create booklets, then export an X-1A PDF file. I then print the PDF from Acrobat to a minolta digital color printer.

Today I did it as always, and now after selecting my print settings and hitting the print button, Acrobat presents a dialog box entitled "Print to File" with a field to enter an "ouput file name".

When I type in a file name, it acts like it is sending data to the printer, but nothing happens at the printer.

Other applications print to the printer fine.

Why did this just start happening?

After some research, I found that the output file name Acrobat is asking for is a name created by me that is a *.ps file.

I create a filename.ps and hit OK. Sure enough it does create a massive PS file (380 MB vs the original 28 MB PDF). But when I open it in Adobe Distiller, it won't created a PDF out of it, saying there is some error in it. I tried Detect and Repair from within Acrobat, and it did some reconfiguring, but after re-start, I still have the same problem.

I feel like a moron. After some more research, I realized that I had inadvertently checked the "Print to File" box in the print settings. After I unchecked it everything is fine.
