Printing PDF files produces random characters and LARGE font size

hey, I have a couple of printers that will not print PDF files...they either lock up the printer or produce a page full of random characters...other printers work fine

one of the printers is a HP Business inkjet 1200
the other is a new copy machine in the AR series
