Hi All,
I know this is the HP printer section but you might be able to help. I have two Canon iR copiers that I'm trying to use across a router. The problem I'm running into seems to be the lack of a routing table on the Canon.
simple example:

WS -------------------- router ------------------- copier
10.232.254.100/16 10.232.254.1 -- 10.0.0.5 10.0.1.143/8

I have all the other communications working (server, file shares, etc...) the client needs to "talk" to the copier and that's what isn't getting routed.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Jason

Why 3 different subnets? Is your subnet mask correct in your router, since you're using an entire class-a on your copier? You would also need to be using a class-a on your router.

So... your workstation is a class B (/16), then your router is routing to 10.0.0.5 (/8?) then over to 10.0.1.143/8?

Wow... do you *NEED* 16M IP addresses?

I've had good luck with the Canon IR series... but it looks like you may have bigger problems than the copier itself....

Can you PING the copier? And the Canon doesn't have a routing table... it just has an IP, netmask, and gateway. However, once again, if your router/gateway isn't on the same subnet as the copier, it's not going to work.

Just my 2¢

I'm in the process of trying to get into PCI compliance. So yes I need these subnets (they are VLAN's using ProCurve switches). The router is working for everything else just not the copier. I don't have ARP turned on so each workstation that needs to cross the router get the route added manually. Since the copier doesn't keep a routing table I guess this just can't work right?
