printing outside subnet 1

We have a small departmental network using static IPs (192.168.8.x) with a simple LinkSys router. Our default gateway is the LinkSys router (192.168.8.1). We're "connected" to a larger corporate network (192.168.1.x).. that is, our router is pointing to THAT network as its default gateway.

I apologize if I'm messing up terms here... but we USED to be able to print to 2 printers that are on the corporate network (i.e. 192.168.1.130 and 192.168.1.131)... but now we can't print to them. What am I missing as far as being able to print to these printers outside our subnet of 192.168.8.x)? I've set them up a "local TCP/IP" printers, got the right IP address, got the right driver. I can't ping them, nor telnet via port 9100. I *was* able to *add* them to a workstation's printers, but whenever I try to print a test page, it doesn't print it... I just get an error message about printing failed.

Any help?

Are both networks in the same building? What exactly is the topology?

Burt

Yes, both are in same building... not sure how to describe topology more succintly and accurately, other than what I have explained above.

Others on the 192.168.1.x subnet can print to those printers, but when we try to print, it just hangs... and we USED to be able to print to them... not sure what changed.

I can't ping them, nor telnet
Both of those utilities ignore subnetting, so your problem is not a subnet issue. Something has changed in the routing between your subnets that blocks your traffic. Ask the IT people at corporate what they changed.

Norton could have updated, if you have that installed...

Burt

Thanks... We'll nudge the IT people... and there's no Norton Internet Security installed, just AntiVirus... There are no firewall issues that are apparent to me.
