Printing output of a command to screen as well as sending it to file

Let us say:

echo "Hi John"

I would like to print it on screen as well as send the output to a file.

I believe there is a "tee" command that does this. I am a newbie myself as well, but I remember reading about that somewhere yesterday.

You need to use "tee"

eg:

echo "Hi John" | tee file.txt
