Anyone know of any trays etc, that would allow me to print on postcards
thanks

When printing on postcards custom type paper (size, weight)paper you should ALWAYS use the manual feeder if existing on the printer, unless the printer operations manual tells that the current tray is supporting the specific type of pmedia. The trays for loading normal A4 / letter are not that well equipped for performing that job. Tip: Go here and locate the right media for your printer:

We have always had good luck printing postcards with "personal" laser printers like the HP 6L or 1100 that feed paper from a vertical bin in the back. They have guides that allow you to adjust for any width of stock.

On higher end printers like the Laserjet 4000 series, hpwizzard is right, you can feed either single or multiple cards from the manual feeder. You will want to open the rear output tray so the cards will have a strait path thru the printer.

For personal printers I am currently buying Samsung, like the ML-1430. These are very nice printers and are less than $200.

Depending on the application and the printer driver, you may have to fuss around with the margins of the document some to get it to print correctly on the smaller size stock.

we just want to put a whole stack of cards and leave it, these will be printing data on them from a DB so we do not want to constantly have to insert each card...we need a"postcard feeder"

I did some tab cards with small Canon inkjets , vertical hopper, straight thru path. Feed will be a continuous problem for you and you will probably need to feed small quantities. Ed Fair

I would guess that most HP laser printers could handle about 50 postcards at a time in the manual feed tray. I would guess about the same for the "personal" style printer with vertical feed.

If you need more than this I know that HP makes an envelope feeder for the Laserjet 4000 series but I don't really know anything about it.
