Hi. We have an HP LJ 4600dn, and are printing on 3-hole punch paper. Our users noticed bands of magenta along the edges of the paper, and it turns out the printer is spitting toner through the holes and onto the transfer, rollers, etc.

Every print is being ruined.

I checked the settings, set the tray to "PREPUNCHED", restarted the printer, but this setting seems to have zero effect. Prints still run to the full hardware margins.

How can I force this printer to not print on the margin where the holes reside, for Tray 2 (Cassette) duplex printing?

(We print hundreds of documents to various printers and paper types, so setting margins on documents via software isn't an option)

Thanks,

I have had similar problem on the 4600 and 4650 printer with normal bond paher it spills ton on the edges, it can be seen more on duplex printing. I keep our clean each week, but they are only low volume machines, so not an option for you. Hope you get an answer so it will help others.

In the Print Quality Menu, go to Set Registration.
scroll to Adjust Tray-X to change the margins.
Not sure if this will remain a default, but it will allow you to shift the image over. You may have to adjust the image in the document.
