HI
WE HAVE AN IBM RS6000 LOADED WITH AIX 4.3.3. WE ARE TRYING TO PRINT THROUGH WINDOWS NT TO AN IBM 4226 PRINTER THAT IS CONNECTED REMOTLY TO THE NT BY IN INTEL PRINT SERVER. AFTER WE INSTALLED THE SIMPLE TCP/IP SERVICES ON THE NT IT PRINTS, BUT ONLY CRAMMED UP IN THE TOP LEFT CORNER OF THE PAGE .... IS THER ANY WAY AROUND THIS

Michaelclark,

Is this also the case when printing directly from NT to the printer??

If it is just AIX pop up a copy of your /etc/qconfig file for me to have a look at.....or email me with it directly via:

well the windows test page and a word pad text file prints perfectly.

but when i print from a unix app (such as Unidata) or just lpr a test file it just prints on maybe the top left quarter of the page

michaelclark,

It sound like you are using the wrong printer backend process in your /etc/qconfig file for the printer it should be rembak as the backend i.e. it lets NT do all of the page formatting - also type of print spooler leave as AIX version 3 or 4.

HI, THANKS FOR YOUR HELP SO FAR. THE BACKEND FOR THIS QUEUE WAS ALREADY REMBAK, HOWEVER MY SHORT FORM FILTER WAS BSD. AFTER CHANGING TO AIX I DISCOVERED THAT MY /usr/lib/lpd/aixshort FILE WAS CORRUPT (rembak would not digest). I CHANGED THE FILTER TO AIXV2 BUT THAT DID NOT HELP ANY. IF I COULD FIND AND RESTORE MY AIXSHORT FILE WILL THAT FIX IT, OR SINCE AIXV2 DID NOT WORK, IS IT SOMETHING ELSE?

AGAIN THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP

michaelclark,

I would try and restore it as it is what I always use for NT printers and it always works - however you could try setting up a new remote queue using local filtering to see if this works - I have also succesfully configured an NT printer using this method....

Just another thing to try....

How can I set up local filtering in a Queue to OS/2? (It uses LPD protocol too...)

ElgisRamon,

I assume that you are asking how to set up a queue well the steps are as follows:

smitty spooler - add a print queue - remote - local filtering - select driver or chose generic - select type of print queue i.e. PS

Give it a try....

I would set up a new queue though rather than edit an existing one...
