Folks,

I have a windows 2003sp2 standard server running Terminal Services. When I am working from home I would like to be able to to print to my Epson Stylus dx4000 all in one device through its USB port but terminal services does not recognise it.

When I check the app logs on the server I see it cannot find the driver for the printer but I have checked the epson site for w2003 driver for the dx400 but it doesn't have one. Does this mean I can't print to my dx4000?

Cheers

A lot of times you can use the XP driver for this. I would give that a try.

You'll most likely have to install the printing program that came with your multifunction printer on the TS in order for it to work. I've had that happen and consequently stopped support for these devices due to all the different programs needed to run them on the TS.

If the printer won't work with just a driver, we don't support it in a TS environment.

Try the driver first...it might work. I have had some multifunctions perform just fine...others not so much...but IIRC they were Brother units.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

There are no more PDC's! There are DC's with FSMO roles!

On your home PC, try some of the XP drivers that are included with Windows. You may find a ESC2 driver that will work with your printer. If you do, use that driver temporarily and set it as the default. Then reconnect to the server as an administrator (with printer mapping ON, of course) and then test. Then try it as yourself (remember, logging in remotely as an Admin for normal work is a bad idea).

Lads, have been away for for a few days so just getting back to this. The pc I have at home is running Vista Business. Regards the XP driver I asssume I just try and load it onto terminal server and see if it works when I log in remotely?

The general idea is to use the built-in Windows Drivers, as opposed to the ones you download from the manufacturer's website. Even if it is Vista, if you're using a very generic driver, you've got a shot at it working.

Lads, I installed the driver from the epson website onto the server and it picked up the printer when I logged in from home straight away and printed fine. I know this open up a can of worms but as I work from home one day week I needed the printer working and will deal with other people on a cae by case basis.

Thanks for the help everyone.
