Printing Literals on a shop packet

I just un-hid some literals on the Shop Floor Order Entry screen for our Planner. I placed them (User Field 1 & 2) under the 'Reference' field to allow him to add some details about the order.

When he prints a shop packet these fields/literals don't show.

If I run a report (SFC -> Reports -> By Shop Order) the notes/literals show up so I know they are there.

Does anyone know how to customize what is printed on a Shop Packet?

Any help would be appreciated.

Oops, I forgot:

Macola 7.5.103f
P-SQL 7

The shop packet is unlike other forms in that you cannot maintain it and control what is displayed on it in form maintenance. Your best bet is to use a crystal report to get what you want to appear on the shop packet. Software Sales, Training, Implementation and Support for Exact Macola, eSynergy, and Crystal Reports

I agree with dgillz. The best way to deal with this is through Crystal Report. If you have access to Integrated Crystal Report, there is a Crystal version of the Shop Packet already written. This is easily modified.

a typical answer would be to add another document to your shop floor. more paper is not the answer. you want the information on your shop floor order. especially if you are using a paperless system out in your shop. in reality Crystal is not the answer nor is macola. I can't wait for the company to get rid of it. the three or four users i know all complain that they pay consultants to sit on the phone on hold waiting for an answer from macola. the first answer is typically not correct so you wait on hold again while the meter is running. the software is far better than the company.

Macsux,

No one offered the solution of adding "another document" or "more paper" to the shop floor, only modifying an existing document to contain more data.

Crystal is the answer in this situation, IMO. If the solution is paperless or not paperless is a choice of the user on wheather to print or view the crystal report output.

If you have something to add in terms of a solution for the user, please let us know.

Well I'm not sure how to do the CR solution that you're talking about.

Planner goes into SFC
Enters order
Releases order
Option screen -> Print? I take it you are suggesting not to print at this point. Printing would now give the planner a shop packet to release to the floor...minus the 2 fields I added.

Now what? Instead of his normal operation he needs to run a report and use that to generate the shop packet?

I had hoped my idea of adding the fields would help to make his job easier by adding information to the shop packet. I had also hoped for a solution that keeps him from needing to open another program (but that may be the answer) so as not to interrupt the work flow.

I still don't have a clear picture of the CR solution but...am I asking for too much?

1eyed: Do you use the Progression Workflow Explorer? If not, try it! Many of the standard Macola reports including shop packets can be modified in the integrated crystal report in PWE. The shop packets are not available in the standard form designer like pop order forms, etc. You can select unreleased shop packets as well as released. You might need to change the procedure of actually printing this document instead of going from the order entry screen, you instead use the processes menu. You must own version 7 for Macola to modify these reports (officially) & if you have purchased through distribution instead of Macola, there is a fee to register through Macola. It is a powerful tool to customize your reports & forms once you invest a little time in learning it. You could contract with your macola reseller or one of us that uses it to get some training to get you started.

1eyed,
I have modified this particular Crystal Report at several different clients with great success. The main problem with the reports is that there is usually too much information and they want some of it taken off. Anyway, if you own Crystal and use PWE, this is a fairly easy thing to do. Anything we can do to help, let us know.
