I have tried every variation of the lp command I can think of to print in landscape. I have used:

lp -olandscape /etc/passwd, lp -o landscape /etc/passwd, lp -o length=8.5i -o width=11i -o cpi=12 -o lpi=8 /etc/passwd. I tried lp -o cpi=elite /etc/passwd to just try to get it in the smaller type.

The output always comes out as if I had typed lp /etc/passwd: portrait instead of landscape and 10 cpi.

I know the printer is capable of printing landscape with 12 cpi and 8 lpi because it does it from an AIX system. This is an hplaser printer and content type is simple. I have checked the Solaris System Administrator's Guide and the Advanced System Administrator's Guide and can't find the answer.

What am I doing wrong? Is there some file I can edit to change my default pitch and page size? This would be a last resort because I would want to make the changes on the fly rather than have them be permanent.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can create another logical printer pointing to the same physical and edit the interface file to make it landscape. Then have printerA and printerAL for landscape.
