A general question re: printers and illustrator - hope someone can help. I want to buy a (cheapish) inkjet printer but it seems not all printers can print from Illustrator. So how can I tell if a printer will be able to handle Illustrator files? Is it a printer memory issue, or something else?

Many Thanks

OB

hi;

Illustrator being a vector oriented app is very close with postcript. So A postcript printert will give beter results. Or purchase a printer with a rip emulator, than this emulator will do some postcript translation, but the result won't be as good as an Postcript printer.

hope this helps.

The Epson Stylus line of color printers are a pretty good deal for the money. Keep in mind that ink is not cheap and will be a regular investment. Any printer that couldnt receive AI files, although Ive not seen one, could probably receive a rasterized file instead. You could probably export your .ai file at 300 dpi and print that from a different app. BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!
