Does anyone know why printing from InDesign is so much slower (and PostScript files so much larger) than in Quark. Even pages with just text files is slow. Perhaps it downloads fonts with every page?

Take a look at all the options in the Print window of ID, especially graphics, In Images Send Data - ALL gives better results than subsampling but slows things up. Under Fonts, you have the option to download fonts, plus download ppd fonts. All that effects print speed.

The Print postscript dialogue box is the same as the normal print one - with the same options to create a bigger or smaller file.

Play around with this stuff to see what gives you the best results
