I am an absolute newbie to unix, but my company has a unix server that currently prints to a dot matrix and they would like to replace the printer, the unix server gets an ip address from my dhcp apparently, so I was wondering if there is a way to do lpt1 printer port capture, similar to that in dos, so that I can set this server up to print to one of the network printers.
Thanks
Jason

There is a couple things you can do to set up a printer. You can make your UNIX server a print server, or you can connect your UNIX server to print to printers using another print server. HP has a good application called "jetadmin". It runs on UNIX very well and is easy to set up. Not sure what flavor of UNIX you are using... Solaris has an application called "admintool" which you can set up your UNIX server to print to your network printers.

Of course you can do this, it's UNIX.

How you do it differs on different flavours. I don't think you need to do a capture to print to a network printer. Find out what print service is running on the network printer and set your print subsystem to print direct. Post more details get more details.

Have fun,
